Blueshift is a robotics club at the Gibbons Middle School (GMS). Founded in the 2021-22 academic year, Blueshift introduces 7th and 8th grade students to basic concepts in robotics. Students from both grades can attend. The club meets once per week after the end-of-day and is run and mentored my Redshift students. The club alternates between hardware centric and software centric years. The actual materials presented and projects assigned is adjusted as needed to suit the student population.
Blueshift is not FLL or FTC. Each club meeting lasts about 45 minutes. Prior experience in a robotics related field is not required nor expected. As such the club is better suited to those students who are curious about robotics but have never taken that next step to robot hardware or software. That said, students with some prior robotics and/or technical experience can use the club to further develope their skills and interests. All students can use the club to see if FRC is something that might interest them when they arrive at Westborough High School.
GMS students interested in Blueshift should check for club announcements at the start of the school year.
