We are FIRST Robotics team 4048, Redshift, from Westborough High School in Westborough, Massachusetts. From our first competition in 2012, we have grown to become a colorful team with over 50 students interested in all areas of technology. Through numerous competitions and programs, we provide a setting where students are encouraged to pursue their interests in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields with support and guidance from dedicated mentors.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) empowers
students to sharpen and broaden their skills in engineering fields through a series of robotics
competitions emphasizing the values of teamwork, cooperation, and respect. Through guidance from
mentors, students reinforce their analytical and creative skills, gain experience in leadership
and design, and forge friendships with fellow team members.
FIRST organizes several robotics competitions to get students in different age groups involved in STEM. Their showcase competition is the FIRST Robotics Competition, or FRC, in which high school students are given just over six weeks to design, construct, and implement a robot designed to meet a specific challenge. In addition to FRC, there is also FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) for grades 7 to 12, FIRST Lego League (FLL) for grades 4 to 8 and FIRST Lego League Jr for ages 6 to 9.
Dedicated to advancing STEM in the community, our sponsors have collectively donated tens of thousands of dollars towards the betterment of the team. Their many generous donations allow us to attend our many competitions and events and pay for the registration fees, materials costs, and many other expenses. It is certain that without the support of our sponsors, our team would not be what it is today.
